Marguerite Miller gave the children’s message this past week, telling them how she had gotten hit by a cornstalk while gardening. Her husband told her he was sorry. Forgiveness is tricky. You need to let anger go. We need to learn about Peter. We are told to forgive 70 x 7!
Stacy Wyant game our recent message when Pastor Jeannine and Phil were vacationing. We remember Gettysburg. We remember Pearl Harbor. We remember 9-11. We won’t forget but we are told to forgive. Don’t hold on to hurts. We are set free by forgiveness.
Marguerite is helping make quilts for Yates County Christmas. She is working with My Brothers Keeper ladies in Penn Yan and needs blankets and sheets for finishing. If you have any, please bring to church!

This past Sunday, we had blessing of the backpacks and the students going to school by Pastor Jeannine. Article by Joyce L. Wiedrich 09-17-26 Pastor Jeannine blessed the students and their backpacks is we are heading back to school. She reminded the children to talk to mom and dad when they were nervous to fight through the butterflies when they are scared, and also to remember that Jesus is always beside you. Pastor Jeannine spoke to us about working together in unity and spreading the good news. Discord is in a natural thing among people, especially between siblings. We do all go through difficult times but have to remember how we treat others is how we want to be treated. We also need to talk to others face-to-face when we have problems rather than texting or using the Internet. School is back in session. Watch for those kiddos walking and on their bikes. Come worship with us at 9am Sundays! We have nursery and Sunday School services.
Music Sunday was such a success! Thanks Ron and Marguerite Miller for working with the choirs! Article by Joyce L. Wiedrich 09-10-26 Pastor Jeannine asked us when we were in school how we felt about pop quizzes. Who do people say the son of man is? We gather together to have the spirit. We gather together to be a disciple of Christ. Pastor Jeannine asked us what a cross means. It’s a symbol that Jesus put himself out there so we don’t have to face life alone. Wearing a cross is a good reminder! Lots of wonderful hymns and songs from the kids and adult choirs for Music Sunday. We also passed the bucket for Hope Walk, as we do on all of our fifth-Sunday Music Sundays. On 9/21 a pass the dish picnic is being planned for all of those who have helped with Sunday School or nursery this past year. Should be fun! School is back in session. Watch for those kiddos walking and on their bikes. Come worship with us at 9am Sundays! We have nursery and Sunday School services.
Our Bluff Point crew were busy serving the Oak Hill barbeque this past weekend. Article by Joyce L. Wiedrich 09-03-26 Pastor Jeannine showed the kids a diagram of geese flying. The lead goose is the head of the pack. Is the geese fly in a V shape formation. When the goose gets tired, another takes over the lead role. Helping others is part of being a member of this church this church. At this church we all work together! Examples of this teamwork were this past weekend, when many of our church members worked together to serve Oak Hill’s Saturday barbecue. We set up, served, and cleaned up afterwards. Following this was the annual Yates County Hope Walk, led by Ron Miller. Many of us in church participated filling luminary bags with sand, helped with the silent auction, designing luminary bags and we also walked to support the effort. It feels good to be part of a team. Pastor Jeannine reminded us that we are all part of the body of Christ and that God loves us. We need to tell others of the love of Christ. Think of inviting others to come to church. Some of us are welcomers, some are supporters. We are all part of the body of Christ. We need to give our heart, mind, and well and obedient service as an offering to Christ. Pastor Jeannine and Phil are now moved into the Dresden parsonage. The open house is from 3 to 6 PM on Thursday, September 3. On Sunday, September 6 we will have blessings of the backpacks for the kids and for anyone involved in education. It’s important for us to send our teachers in our students back to school with love and support. Please join our little country church at 9 AM on Sundays!
Thank you girls for making so many beautiful bags for the luminaries for the cancer Hope Walk. Article by Joyce L. Wiedrich 08-27-26 Pastor Jeannine told us that Jesus answers prayers on his time. Sometimes this is not when or how we want them answered. Scripture lesson was from Matthew 15: 21-28. Canaanites were enemies of the Jews. A Canaanite woman demanded attention from Jesus. She called out to Jesus to have mercy on her. She told him that her daughter was possessed by the devil Jesus ignored her- the disciples begged Jesus to send her away which he did not. He replied that he was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel. He told the woman that it was not right to give the children’s bread to the dogs. She responded that even the dogs eat the crumbs from the masters table. Upon hearing that, Jesus felt she had great faith and healed her daughter. Jesus showed his concern and love. Summer is soon coming to a close. We have music Sunday on Sunday, August 30 at 9 AM at church. Please come and join us and bring your friends and neighbors. Music Sunday is always a special event. Ron and Marguerite Miller put a lot of effort into the musical numbers of both the adult choir and children’s choir. The open house of Pastor Jeannine and Phil’s parsonage home in Dresden is September 3- from 3 to 6 PM. They recently moved from Geneva to be closer to the two churches that she serves. We have had many visitors this summer, and so are glad that people have come to worship with us. We are a loving church community and welcome all visitors!
We all enjoyed a joint worship service at Climbing Bines and a picnic to follow along with Dresden and Milo Center United Methodist Churches. Article by Joyce L. Wiedrich 08-20-26 There were nearly 80 people at our combined church service and summer picnic this past Sunday at Climbing Bines along with Dresden and Milo Center churches. We enjoyed singing and a lovely worship service. Pastor Jeannine told us how Peter may have been impulsive but he had faith and courage challenging Jesus to walk on water if it was really him. This occurred after the miracle when a few fish and loaves of bread fed over 5000. Pastor Jeannine had the children gather and showed them a few objects. She asked them if they could walk on water. She showed them a few objects like wood and aluminum foil and asked them if these objects would float or sink. She ended with telling them that we need to keep faith in Jesus. If we take our eyes off Jesus, we sink. Jesus tells us to walk with him! Don’t forget the Hope Walk coming up this next Saturday at Penn Yan Fireman’s Field. There will be opportunities there to make the luminary bags to light the path at the end of the ceremony. It’s a beautiful ceremony and time to give tribute to those that have passed from cancer or are facing its effects. Come worship with us at 9 AM on Sunday. We have a very loving church.
Many of us are getting ready Hope Walk on August 22 by decorating luminary bags and honor or memory of friends or loved ones filled with sand to be lit during the ceremony. Article by Joyce L. Wiedrich 08-13-26 Thank you, Stacy Wyant for giving us our message today. and Chris Wyant and Laurie Prinzivalli for the children’s message. They told us that even God has a sense of humor, and he never makes mistakes. Stacey showed us the divine provisions that we have. Jesus is the breath of life. His message was based on the scripture from Matthew 14: 13-21. This is very familiar scripture of how Jesus made five loaves of bread and two fish more than enough to feed 5000 people who had come to hear Jesus speak. The scripture is in all 4 gospels, which shows us what an important message it is. God‘s provisions are complete. Jesus performed miraculous things. Stacy remind us to take a breath and pace ourselves. We are always so busy. The Earth is moving fast is our the sun and galaxy. Remember to be thankful and enjoy your life. August 22 we will be serving the chicken barbecue at Oak Hill. Everyone loves their chicken- come and visit us and get your dinner. Later that day from 4 to 9:30 PM is the Hope Walk at the Firemans field in Penn Yan. We are preparing our luminary bags. Prior to the Hope Walk is a garage sale with a free will offering. Bring items for the sale and choose some things for yourself! August 30 is music Sunday at church! Lots going on this summer! Come and worship with us at 9 AM on Sundays!
Stacy Wyant is a fan of the Bluff Point United Methodist Church! Article by Joyce L. Wiedrich 08-06-26 Pastor Jeannine showed the children a box of brownie mix. She wondered if the kids like brownie sundaes. Do they like brownies? Do they like to share? Would they eat the mix by itself? No, you need eggs, water and oil and to spray the pan before you bake. You have to add things… we need to add others in our lives to make our lives complete as well! Pastor Jeannine told us we need to turn things over to God. We need to pray. God is with us when we step out of our comfort zone. He’s with us all the time! Christine Wyant has raffle tickets for a camp for special needs children that the PY Rotary is sponsoring if you are interested! The winner will receive some beautiful folding Adirondack chairs. Ron Miller is in charge of the Hope Walk on August 15th at Fireman’s field. Please support this! All the money collected supports people affected by cancer in Yates County. All the money stays locally. There will be a yard sale that morning- please bring donated items early that day and pick up other things you might need for a monetary donation. Thank you Christie and Marilyn for tasty snacks! Article by Joyce L. Wiedrich 07-30-26 Our lesson this past Sunday was about weeds among the wheat. Gathering the weeds before harvest would upset the wheat. Pastor Jeannine lamented about the English garden. An English garden is a design of the master gardener. There are no weeds to detract from the flowers. Pastor Jeannine asked us if this would be nice if our world was like this. Christian life is a journey. Church is like a messy garden. We welcome all…a hospital for sinners, not a museum. Jesus welcomed the tax collector and prostitutes. He felt they would enter the kingdom of God first. We will be selling cookies at the community concert in the park on July 29th. We also will be selling the Oak Hill barbeque chicken on August 22. Lots of opportunities for service. Come worship 9am Sundays with us!
Thank you, Dick Smith for reading our scripture this past week! Article by Joyce L. Wiedrich 07-23-26 Pastor Jeannine asked the kids if they had ever grown anything. She talked about planting seeds. If you sow seeds on the carpet, will they grow? If you spread them on the ground, will they grow or will they grow better with water, sunshine and if they are covered with dirt? God hears us like we nourish and tend to our plants and seeds. God nourishes us and tends to the heart of our souls. In addition to tending to our plants, we need to tend to our friendships. Sometimes we don’t see someone for a long period of time and when we catch up it is like we never had been apart. Whatever the situation, we need to cultivate our friendships and relationships with active communication and love. God touches us and we touch the lives of others. Please come worship with us. You are new to the area or just even visiting we openly welcome you to our worship services at 9 AM on Sundays.
Here are two of our 4th of July firecrackers! Article by Joyce L. Wiedrich 07-16-26 This past Sunday was our Fourth of July Sunday as we celebrated our 250th birthday of America almost everyone in the congregation wore red, white, and blue and celebration of the day. Pastor Jeannine showed the kids a jar of elbow macaroni and shook it. She has the kids if they like to eat dried macaroni or would eat macaroni with macaroni and cheese or with butter if it was cooked. The macaroni comes to life when it’s cooked. She also told them about dried bones. Can these bones live again? God brings life into us with the power of the Holy Spirit and calls his people back to himself. She told them about a vision of dried bones. The dried bones represent the nation of Israel in history they represented bones on the floor of the valley. Pastor Jeannine told a story of the Statue of Liberty with the torch and book message. One little girl asked her parents if they could help the lady hold up the torch. She felt that her arm was getting tired. And on the Fourth of July, we celebrate freedom, justice, and mercy just like our church bell, we need to ring freedom’s bell. Happy summer and we hope that you all enjoyed the Fourth of July holiday as we celebrated our Country’s special birthday! Our sincere condolences to the family of Dana Schillinger. Dana and Helen have been long-term members and supporters of Bluff Point United Methodist Church. They are both in church almost every Sunday. Dana was in church last Sunday before he passed rather suddenly this past Tuesday. On military occasions, he would often wear his uniform which still fit him. We will miss his kind ways but know than our brother in Christ is with Jesus. Please keep Helen in your prayers.
